CHAPTER THIRTEEN
When Tripp walked in to the office Monday morning he could tell the week was going to be hell. Matt had put a note in the middle of his computer screen telling him that he had someone covering things today and for Tripp to meet him in his office. He got both of them cups of coffee and the bagels he always brought in along with his brief case then headed down the hall. Matt was sitting on the floor with his shoes off and papers were every where.
“What the hell Matt! Have you been here all night? You should have called me.”
“No. I came in about four this morning. I wanted to make sure we had all of this stuff in the correct files with the right color tabs to go with the lay out of the questions that I'll be asking. I also wanted to make sure the video from the cameras were locked up in the safe until we go to trial next week.”
Tripp got down on the floor with him. He handed Matt his coffee and bagel making him stop long enough to eat. He took the biggest stack of files and got to work tabbing and laying them out in order per the questions Matt would be asking. Jase stopped by at lunch time dropping off the food he forgot this morning from the cookout yesterday. He and Matt ate while working. Every few minutes one of them would let a few curse words out because someone had put the wrong color tab on a file or a file was in the wrong stack. There wasn't many but it was enough to piss them both off. At ten pm they decided to call it a night and meet back at the office at seven a.m instead of the normal nine a.m time.
Tripp gathered his things locked up his desk and walked out the door. He was so tired he could barely hold his eyes open. When he got to his car he noticed that the two back tires were flat. He looked around to see if anyone was in the parking lot but saw nothing. “Just fucking great! I guess I'll be waiting here for a few, dammit,” he thought while pulling out his cell phone. He called Jase first and asked him to come pick him up then called the towing service to take his car to the tire shop. He called Garrick hoping he was still awake. He wanted someone to talk to while he waited on Jase to get there. After the third ring Tripp started to hang up but he heard Garrick's groggy voice on the other end.
“Oh honey, I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you up. Go back to sleep, I'll talk to you tomorrow.”
“No no, it's fine baby. What are you doing? You make it home yet?”
“Hell no. I just got off work, walk outside to find my back two tires flat. So I called Jase to come pick me up then the wrecker service to tow my car.
